Classic noir and older crime catalogue run deep on the free ad-supported tiers, so Tubi, Pluto and Roku's channel are worth a look before paying for anything more than a couple of years old. New theatrical crime releases debut premium and then scatter fast, so a few weeks of patience often saves the fee. True-crime documentaries are the exception: the prestige ones tend to stay locked to the service that commissioned them.
